Movie Review : Punyalan Private Limited
Director Ranjit Sankar’s 2013 comedy Punyalan Agarbattis launched a likeable Thrissur based businessman named Joy Thakkolkkaran, played by Jayasurya. In the earlier version, Joy came up with a rather curious idea, making incense sticks from elephant dung. The Thrissur accent, some characters like Aju Varghese’s Greenu Sharma and Sreejith Ravi’s Abhay Kumar, some social and political statements and superb music made it entertaining. Punyalan Private Limited begins when Joy is facing severe financial trouble. His properties have been attached by the bank, Greenu has gone to the Gulf and Joy’s wife Anu passed away sometime back. But Joy is not ready to give up. He starts a plant where mineral water is made from elephant’s urine. Then, after a while, he takes on the system, the politicians, the media and the legal system.
